Colourful wedding flowers at a gorgeous outdoor wedding
Laura and Alex’s epic outdoor wedding was a joy to plan and be part of – not only were they the loveliest couple throughout the planning process but their infectious joy and love for each other and love of colour was irresistible and really stood out in this year’s gallery of spectacular weddings. The couple got ready at Richmond Hill Hotel and then held their wedding ceremony and reception at Pembroke Lodge, in the Belvedere terrace and suite.
We arrived at the hotel nice and early, with the bridal flowers, to be greeted by much excitement, happiness and laughter in the bridal suite. There was even a life sized cardboard cut out model of Alex keeping a watchful eye over the bridal party preparations. Laura who is always happy and smiley, had a permanent smile on her face and was delighted that the day was so beautiful and sunny even early in the morning. We had always planned for this to be an outdoor wedding at Pembroke Lodge but with a May wedding it isn’t always to be. Luckily the day was glorious and more like a July day, so we didn’t need to resort to plan B.
Laura and her five bridesmaids carried wild and unstructured bouquets with lots of colourful country garden blooms, including roses, delphiniums, scented stocks, lisianthus, snapdragons, wild fennel, larkspur and many more flower varieties, all in a blend of colourful and uplifting shades, which looked lovely against their blue-toned dresses. The brides’ best male friend had a matching colourful rustic buttonhole to match the other buttonholes.
For the ceremony area we dressed the outdoor wedding oak pavilion with 2 freestanding floral towers which could have been positioned indoors in case of bad weather. Rather grand, they took 2 of us to even lift them in place before putting on the finishing touches.
To create a beautiful wedding aisle for Laura, we added gorgeous flower meadows against every other row of seats, to line the wedding aisle, alternating with chair flower posies and gold lanterns on the in between rows. The ceremony table was styled simply with clusters of flower posies in bud vases, connected by a rustic eucalyptus garland.
It brought a lot of joy to be able to make such good use of all these beautiful flowers later on in the day once the ceremony had finished: the floor meadows were reused at the bottom of the long top table and the floral pillar towers were repurposed cleverly from the oak pavilion to behind the top table, creating a beautiful backdrop to the fun and laughter-filled speeches. The loose and bloomy bridal and bridesmaids bouquets were also cleverly repurposed to add flowers to the top table and finally, even the the chair posies were reused to dress some of the round guest tables. The remaining round guest tables were dressed with opulent gold rose bowls bursting with colourful summer flowers. The textures throughout were really glorious and the mix of garden style flowers and wilder meadow blooms was really successful, really bringing nature to the inside space.
Our heart goes to Jonny Gouldstone Photography, who luckily was a friend of the couple and produced the most glorious photo album for the lovely Laura & Alex. So grateful to be able to share a small selection of photos from this amazing outdoor wedding at Pembroke Lodge!
