Vintage wedding flowers at Great Fosters

Moody vintage blooms Great Fosters wedding

I like any wedding which would like a touch of vintage wedding flowers style, especially one where the story that starts with a pair of amazing Jimmy Choos! This is the story of Janelle and Alistair’s wedding day, starting on a lovely crisp late October morning at Janelle’s parents home, bustling with wedding party preparations.  Janelle wanted her bouquet to have a lovely old-fashioned vintage style to it, so we used gorgeous mix of vintage wedding flowers including cream, blush and stony lilac roses, with feathery textural astilbe sprigs, lisianthus and succulents.  For the bridesmaids, who wore dark navy blue dresses, we added a little accent inky blue hydrangeas to pick up on the colour of their dresses. I was so pleased with how they all turned out, they all had a lovely old-wordlyness about them…

For the wedding ceremony, Janelle and her dad arrived in style at St Judes’ Church in Englefield Green, a very pretty church with a really intimate feel.  As the church is so tall and has such a narrow wedding aisle, we focused our attention on dressing the area where Janelle and Alaistair would stand during the ceremony.    We created two amazingly grand vintage style urn displays with tall delphiniums, inky blue and ivory blush hydrangeas, lots of roses, scented stocks and textural foliage.

Janelle & Alastair held their wedding reception at Great Fosters, which looked fabulous on this late October day.  We dressed the Tithe Barn with tall elegant silver fluted vases and added lots of vintage candles on the tables to add a lovely and warm ambiance to the tables, key for all autumn weddings.  The top table was styled with a series of matching low fluted mercury glass vases, our vintage candlesticks, and mercury glass votives, and the two large urn centrepieces were brought over from the church and used to create a lovely backdrop for the wedding speeches.

Sprigs of rosemary were used to dress the napkins, and we used succulents on the top table napkins.  The wedding cake was a beautiful naked cake decorated with berries, fruit, figs and orange slices, placed on a wooden log base and dressed with trailing ferns.

To reflect the vintage style of the wedding, Janelle opted not to use the venue’s own chairs, but to hire in lime wash chiavari chairs from Host With Style.
